Landlord Tenant Board LSO Licensing Practice Exam

Session length

What does the LAT stand for, and what does it cover?

The Licence Appeal Tribunal, which hears appeals of licensing and regulatory decisions in Ontario.

The Licence Appeal Tribunal handles licensing and regulatory decisions in Ontario. It provides a venue for people or entities affected by a regulator’s licensing outcome to appeal, reviewing whether the decision was made properly under the law and within the regulator’s powers. It’s not about tenancy issues—that’s the Landlord and Tenant Board—nor is it an investigative body, and it isn’t the Ontario Appeals Court. In LAT hearings, you present evidence and arguments, and the tribunal can uphold, vary, or overturn the licensing decision based on how the law and the facts were applied.

The Landlord Appeals Tribunal, which handles tenant disputes only.

The Licensing and Oversight Panel, which conducts investigations.

The Ontario Appeals Court, which reviews criminal convictions.
